Breast carcinomas in situ

In situ – limited to the level of the duct or lobule, i.e. without invading the surrounding breast tissue.

Ductal carcinoma in situ-DCIS (in 25% of biopsies)

  • spreading through the canal system
  • it is detected mammographically (calcifications, periductal fibrosis, discharge from the nipple).

Lobular carcinoma in situ-LCIS (1-6%, incidental finding)

  • common in the premenopausal period
  • there is a possibility that this type of cancer occurs in the other breast (20-40%).
